Bevel Specs – Committed to maintaining a classic but minimalist esthetic

Bevel’s mission is to enhance the natural beauty of the person behind the eyeglasses with a frame that provides lasting balance and comfort.  They focus their collections on a minimal approach to design and blend fresh natural combinations of color.  Bevel is one of the very few USA based high end optical companies to forge its own path to success through its collection of bold and beautiful eyewear designs.

Richard Mewha and Rick Nelson founded Bevel in 1999 with a commitment to making eyewear essential to personal style and self-esteem.  They knew that the first thing people see when they look at you is, of course,  your beautiful face.

“We can all agree that wearing glasses brings attention to a primary asset: The Face!”

One thing I have in common with Richard, Rick and Claudio, is that we all worked for the Optical Shop of Aspen (OSA) during the 1990’s.  Although I never met Richard or Rick, I met Claudio while working at the Newport Beach location in Fashion Island. Claudio and I even worked together back in the day, when he began his eyewear journey repping for Hiero Eyewear and I worked in customer service out of our Newport Beach office, right off of pacific coast highway.

“Richard and Rick were determined to create a company that opticians would enjoy dealing with.”

You wouldn’t think so, but a design focused eyewear company that has the added benefit of an optician’s insight is rare.

The fact that Richard and Rick wanted to create a company that other opticians in the industry would enjoy dealing with, says it all for me. Being the borderline frame fanatics that we are, care and concern with how a certain design will impact the actual fit and function of the frames is an everyday occurrence. Yeah that nose pad style might look pretty rad – but is it easy to adjust? It’s the little things that make a huge difference for opticians, and ultimately our clients!

Bevel eyewear is made in Japan and uses high quality acetate and titanium to make their frames. They also use a patented hinge design that allows for a bit of “give” that most frames without a spring hinge don’t have. It’s so simple, yet so… brilliant!

“The sunglasses and eyewear are made of acetate and milled titanium with patented hinges.”

Alton’s style – Sunday Somewhere, Fhone and Bevel

“Bevel eyewear is a brand that cherishes fine craftsmanship and sophisticated colors.”

Form, function and quality are the bedrock of this stunning collection, but Bevel will appeal to a wide array of people who want subtle sophistication with a hint of whimsical nonchalant because who doesn’t need the perfect pair of glasses for their cello solo?

Bevels ultimate goal:  To help people feel good about themselves by making them look great. We couldn’t agree more, and that’s why we are happy to work with a brand that is as serious about a little whimsy as we are.
